Song Information
Here's a little bit about each song:
- Hunt'em Down
I heard some talking head guy on TV say we have to "hunt'em down and kill'em" (meaning terrorists). So, I thought that's a good song title. The song became an account of our countries wars, and though we all would like the world to be all about balloons and lollipops, sometimes, well, sometimes, ya gotta hunt'em dowm. You may recognize the chord progression from Jumpin Jack Flash.
- Survival of the West
I had just finished one of those spy books where stuff is happening all around the world, with multiple plot lines, and it comes together in the end. Musically I was going for a Social Distortion kind of feel, at least that's how it started.
- Red, White and Blue
As a conservative there's nothing more upsetting than seeing our young soldiers, many from lower income/immigrant families, risking it all in some third world hell-hole; then seeing some good looking, multi-millionaire actor bitch and moan about our country. Oddly enough, the song itself started with banging around the Stones' Street Fighting Man chords, sort of an anthem feel to it. I stole (borrowed) that TV watching bit from the Mothers of Invention song about the LA riots of the 60's. (I'm sittin watch the riot, watch the riot my TV.)
- Wipe'em Out
This is my Mid-East peace plan. I hate seeing those ski-mask wearing crowds of Palestinian terrorists celebrating after another bus bombing. My dad used to say "when in doubt, throw it out", referring to the crap in my room. I was messing around with that G to A intro to the Van Halen version of "You Really Got Me", (or coulda been the intro to Won't Get Fooled Again), when inspiration hit.
- Useful Idiot
What would a conservative CD be without a tribute to our own "enemy within"? I forget where I got the Chord progression. Maybe it's an original?
- Free White and 51
I saw Betty Davis say "free white and 21" in a movie, and I had been wanting to do a song about getting older, but still feeling kinda young-so that's how it started.
- Power of Pride
You know, just like the bumper stickers. Chord-wise it's a sped up version of Badfingers "Day After Day".
- Tiger
This is a case of I finished all the music but had no clue for the lyrics, so I gave myself 10 minutes to come up with the words. When you hear the song you'll wonder why I needed a whole 10 minutes to come up with these lyrics. Anyway, the guitar playing is probably my best.
- Pig in a Pants Suit
Where do you start when the subject is Hillary? I started by writing down all the scandals/creepy stuff she is known for, hoping to get inspired. Then I decided to have a song that simply lists all the creepy stuff. Musically I think I have out-Hived the Hives, and the 2 note solo really "captures the crazy".
- Thank You Garry
This is the first song I did. Sitting down to write songs about the military, and yet I never served myself, I felt I ought to address this first. This song is a 'thank you' to all our Vets, but Vietnam Vets in particular. Also, these's a bit of 'Survivors Guilt' here too, as I got a pretty high lottery number in the draft, and got to stay home and have a good time. Others were not so lucky. Anyway I got a little choked up on this one.
